Workshop One – How to conduct an investigation 8th September 2015 – 9.30am – 12.30pm

This workshop will focus on how to run an effective investigation to ensure that you get to the centre of an issue in the most efficient and timely manner. We will focus on:

  • Taking witness statements and dealing with reluctant witnesses
  • Preparing an investigation report

The right to privacy and how to use covert surveillance

Workshop Two – Running a disciplinary hearing 10th November 2015 – 9.30am – 12.30pm

This workshop will focus on the practicalities of running a disciplinary hearing, from making the arrangements to conducting interviews and preparing paperwork. We will focus on:

  • What could go wrong and keeping control of the disciplinary hearing
  • What disciplinary sanctions should be imposed and how an Employment Tribunal will review them

The appeal process and aftermath, including unfair dismissal claims

Workshop Three – Attendance Management 12th January 2016 – 9.30am – 12.30pm

This workshop will focus on how absence can be managed effectively and also discuss stress in the workplace – an increasing problem for many businesses. We will focus on:

  • Practical examples of both short and long term absences
  • What to do when an employee can no longer continue in their role

Attendance management policies and the tools to create one

Workshop Four – Re-structures and redundancy 8th March 2016 – 9.30am – 12.30pm

This workshop will take a strategic look at the factors to consider when restructuring a department or business. We will focus on:

  • How to go about changing an employee’s job role and terms and conditions
  • Practical case studies to help you work through a best practice approach

Helen Straw

Helen is the managing director of The Personnel Partnership and is also a Chartered corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Helen operates at senior level, providing HR support and advice during company set-up, growth, reorganisation and complex employee issues. She has developed and implemented a range of HR training programmes across the UK for both SMEs and Blue Chip organisations.

Kate Booth

Kate is a partner with Eaton Smith and an experienced solicitor specialising in employment law. She has particular interests in business acquisitions, restructures and discrimination issues. Kate has been dealing with employment law issues for businesses in both Kirklees and across the UK for the last eight years, and brings with her practical examples of what could go wrong in the workplace and how to address this.
